Senior Manager, Higher Education Collaborative, Jameel World Education Lab

The Senior Manager, J-WEL Higher Education Collaborative will lead in membership development and community building; support program development and research activities as well as serve as the liaison between members and MIT faculty.  This position reports to and works with the Faculty Director of Higher Ed @ J-WEL, as well as the Executive Director of the Jameel World Education Lab. Specific responsibilities include the following.

Membership Development

  • Identify potential members in the higher education space
  • Initiate and cultivate conversations with potential members, to understand their needs and explore mutual benefits of J-WEL membership and other possible means of working together
  • Present J-WEL work and strengths at conferences and other relevant industry events
  • Establish membership commitments and steward contract agreements working in conjunction with the Associate Director, Membership Management
  • Visit member and prospective member sites, in relationship-building and program development capacities, as needed
  • Maintain membership information in conjunction with the Associate Director, Membership Management

Research Liaison and Management

  • Maintain a knowledge of MIT educational programs, activities, and resources that match the needs of the membership community
  • Maintain a knowledge of MIT/ODL products and services that match the needs of the membership community
  • Understand research interests and research projects of MIT faculty in the areas of teaching and learning in higher education, and managing universities
  • Facilitate interactions between J-WEL Higher Education Collaborative members and MIT faculty and other MIT staff
  • Manage the J-WEL Higher Education grant proposal process
  • Liaise with existing programs and projects, to support hand-off from J-WEL to faculty lead, and to monitor progress for reporting back to members
  • Follow up on funding decisions: notifying researchers and follows research progress such that he/she can synthesize and present research findings to a wider audience

Strategy and Programming

  • Manage the J-WEL Higher Education Advisory Committee: setting schedule, agenda, minutes and action items
  • Contribute to defining content of J-WEL Weeks, Bootcamps and Programs
  • Manage aspects of J-WEL Weeks, Bootcamps and Programs organization
  • Develop strategic connections at other academic institutions, foundations, and other pertinent entities
  • Support and promote collaboration across J-WEL Collaboratives and ODL Units
  • Maintain organization of revenue and cost targets for Higher Ed collaborative, with shared responsibility for meeting goals.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree in Higher Education from a leading university strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience in Higher Education
  • Relevant experience, including membership or business development, resource development, and community building
  • Proven ability to achieve community and/or revenue goals
  • Evidence of critical, strategic and innovative thinking
  • Highly organized individual, goal and outcome oriented
  • Self-starter who operates successfully in a dynamic, fast-paced and highly-collaborative environment
  • Positive viewpoint, views challenges with enthusiasm
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • History of building relationships with diverse stakeholders and crafting solutions to meet disparate needs
  • Proven ability to move strategy to operations and detailed execution
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
