The promise of edX was that it would both provide courses to the world and improve teaching and learning on campus. In 2013, a team of MIT physics faculty and instructors integrated features of the platform into introductory physics. We studied the use of those resources, focusing on the Checkable Answer Feature (CAF), and report on what we have learned about student study strategies.

Dr. Jennifer DeBoer is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University. Her research group investigates technology and policy tools to promote equity and success for students around the world. She is the recipient of a 2015 NSF CAREER Award.

Dr. Lori Breslow is a Senior Lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.  Her research focuses on the teaching and learning of transferable skills and improvements in digital learning.  She was the founding director of MIT’s Teaching and Learning Laboratory.
