A Container of Sensors Helps Students to Learn at Home during COVID

Even when students are located away from the classroom, technology can allow them to continue on with their own chemistry research projects. Professor Shuhei Ono provided students with a particulate sensor, carbon dioxide sensor, as well as temperature, pressure, and humidity sensor. All housed within a food container, the simple set up enabled students to hang the device outside or in a room. Students could view their own data and their classmates’ data via a cloud server. The carbon dioxide data could then be used, for example, to calculate the air ventilation rate in a room, a helpful tool particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
