Open Learning offers MIT students the opportunity to blog (and vlog) about events presented throughout the academic year as well as videotape selected xTalks.
Bloggers learn about pedagogical initiatives in digital teaching and learning by attending an event in the Open Learning's xTalk speaker series, Festival of Learning, or related initiatives, and then writing a blog post about the event. Ideally, blog posts are roughly 300-400 words summarizing the main points of the talk, as well as incorporating the student's personal thoughts.
Each writing task will take between 2-3 hours including attending the event and writing the post. Compensation is $70 for each event. A three- to four-day turnaround best suits Open Learning’s workflow, but student schedules and deadlines are taken into consideration. Some events also offer students the opportunity to vlog events with their personal filming devices. Videographers are needed for select xTalks. Qualified individuals will transport, set-up, and operate a Sony XDCAM (PXW-X70) video camera. Compensation is $25/hr. Each event typically involves 3-4 hour commitment. Please contact Jovi Nazareno for more information (jovi@mit.edu).
